MAS instructs, hosts and sponsors various acupuncture-related training workshops. This is how our staff acupuncturists can share aspects of our extensive clinical experiences and pass them on for further use and refinement.
In addition to available workshops, we are happy to provide an ever-growing depository of self-care direction. One of the many lessons learned from the pandemic lockdowns was there's an eager audience for do-it-yourself information about acupressure, in the absence of one's regular acupuncture treatments.
We're happy to offer MAS-endorsed simple self-care information that has proven useful to many.
Become a Certified Ear Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS) in New Hampshire
5NP Ear acupuncture is practiced in New Hampshire by certified ADS in a variety of mental health and substance use treatment settings including: Concord Hospital, Weeks Medical Center, The Farnum Center (Manchester), Process Recovery and Gate House (Nashua), Safe Harbor Recovery Center (Portsmouth), and in private counseling practices. 5NP is endorsed by the Recovery Task Force on the New Hampshire Governor's Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs.
In addition 5NP ear acupuncture is used in VA hospitals and VA centers around the country. It is recognized as an evidence-based treatment by SAMHSA in Treatment Improvement Protocol #45 and by Indian Health Services (IHS) the Federal Healthcare program for Native Americans and Alaska Natives as a best practice for treatment and recovery. It is also promoted by the Alliance for Addiction Solutions.
MAS now offers a 70-hour training program for Auricular Acupuncture Technicians through the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA). This program equips qualified individuals with the skills to administer the 5NP auricular (ear) acupuncture protocol. This safe and effective protocol helps address physical and emotional symptoms related to toxic stress, drug and alcohol detox, chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD, depression, trauma, shock and addiction recovery. This training is approved by the New Hampshire Board of Acupuncture Licensing towards certification as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS).

- Evidence-Based Treatment: Ear acupuncture is recognized by SAMHSA in Treatment Improvement Protocol #45. The 5-point treatment, the specific protocol taught in the program, is a supportive tool for addiction recovery. It has a proven track record in managing stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and trauma.
Program Structure
This hybrid program offers a convenient blend of online learning modules, a focused weekend of in-person instruction, and supervised clinical practice at Hope for New Hampshire Recovery in Manchester. The program is designed to equip participants with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills for safe and effective ear acupuncture administration.
Certification and Supervision
Following successful completion of the program, participants earn their ADS certification. New Hampshire mandates bi-annual renewal of the certification and requires certified ADSes to have two site visits a year under the general supervision of a licensed acupuncturist. MAS is happy to help with general supervision.
