MAS instructs, hosts and sponsors various acupuncture-related training workshops. This is how our staff acupuncturists can share aspects of our extensive clinical experiences and pass them on for further use and refinement.
Become a Certified Ear Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS) in New Hampshire
5NP Ear Acupuncture certification for peer counselors, recovery coaches and licensed professionals was approved by New Hampshire lawmakers in 2017.
MAS offers a 70-hour training program for Auricular Acupuncture Technicians through the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA). This program equips qualified individuals with the skills to administer the 5NP auricular (ear) acupuncture protocol.
This simple, safe and effective protocol helps address physical and emotional symptoms related to toxic stress, drug and alcohol detox, anxiety, PTSD, depression, trauma, shock and addiction recovery. This training has been approved by the New Hampshire Board of Acupuncture Licensing towards certification as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS).
5NP ear acupuncture is federally recognized by the US Justice Department, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in Treatment Improvement Protocol #45 and by Indian Health Services (IHS), the federal healthcare program for Native Americans and Alaska Natives as a best practice for treatment and recovery.
5NP ear acupuncture is offered in VA hospitals and VA programs.
It is also promoted by the NAADAC - The Association for Addiction Professionals and the Alliance for Addiction Solutions. In 2019, The Recovery Task Force on the New Hampshire Governor's Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs endorsed the practice of ear acupuncture by peer counselors.
Ear acupuncture is offered around New Hampshire in a variety of community-based settings, including mental health and substance use treatment settings including Hope for New Hampshire Recovery (Manchester), Weeks Medical Center (Lancaster), Process Recovery Center (Nashua), Live Free Recovery (Keene), Safe Harbor Recovery Center (Portsmouth), The Triangle Recovery Club (Dover), and in a variety of private practices.

The 5-point treatment, the specific protocol taught in the program, is a supportive tool for addiction recovery. It has a proven track record in managing stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and trauma.
Program Structure
This hybrid program offers a convenient blend of online learning modules, a focused weekend of in-person instruction, and supervised clinical practice at Hope for New Hampshire Recovery & Manchester Acupuncture Studio in Manchester. It is designed to equip participants with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills for safe and effective ear acupuncture administration.
Class participants will receive 4 weeks of on-line reading assignments prior to the weekend training and up to four opportunities to complete required supervised clinical hours.
Certification and Supervision
Following the successful completion of the program, trainees will received a certificate from The People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA). Trainees are then eligible to apply for certification through The New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (OPLC). Certification is renewed through the State of New Hampshire every two years and requires certified ADSes to participate in two site visits a year under the general supervision of a licensed acupuncturist. Your course teachers are happy to help with general supervision.
